Most of us are involved in at least one car accident at some time in our lives and we all agree it’s never pleasant. Accidents can range from fender benders to major tragedies with fatalities and injuries; this is when we feel very grateful that we have insurance on our vehicle! This is a very common question that we encounter in our practice. I’ve even heard of insurance agents who expressed the opinion that people do not need uninsured motorist coverage on their auto policy if they have health insurance or Medicare. The reasoning seems to be that following an accident their medical bills would be covered. Unfortunately, this reasoning fails to take into consideration all of the other benefits available from uninsured motorist coverage to someone who’s been seriously injured in an auto accident or to the estate of someone who has been killed.

Beware of the few companies that are out there that only offer car insurance scams. This is one of the pitfalls of car insurance. While the numbers of these fly by night type companies are dwindling, they do still exist. The sold purpose of these companies is to offer you substandard, if any, insurance policies in return for your money, and lots of it.
